Online Guitar Tuition Programs

Which site rocks the most?

The internet is probably the best learning tool a guitar player can have in the modern era-when before has a guitarist had the chance to have acess to chords and tab to every song they could ever want, and also videos and audio clips to help them learn? For a long time I was very frustrated with the state of the guitar sites on the net-it was just the same old tab, and much of it was wrong! Recently though, some newer online guitar tuition schemes have been popping up-some are great but some are truly awful. I've reviewed three of the most popular to help you choose...

And the best online guitar tuition site is...

Guitar Tutor Pro- http:www.dailyguitarlessons.com/Recommends/Guitarpro

I think this program is awesome. I love the entire package-you get a chord finding program along with a tuner and another great little tool to help your timing-all of this on top of the main "Mastering Guitar" course. The main course is great, most of the stuff covered is not only interesting to learn but it really makes you improve fast!

My playing has come on in leaps and bounds since using this program-not only in the area of lead playing but my theory and fretboard knowledge are getting alarmingly good. It's great to be improving at such a rate, and seeing the improvement really helps keep me motivated.

I can't think of too many downsides to the Guitar Tutor Pro package. I think some people will complain about the price-It's 47 bucks-but to be honest I've spent more than that on a single hour long guitar lesson in the past, and there's more in this package than would fit in ten one hour lessons. The only other downside for me is the lack of specific ear training program that you get with Jamorama. Having said that, the rest of the program is much better, so Guitar Tutor Pro is my online guitar tuition package of choice!

Overall rating-9 out of 10. I honestly don't know what more you could want from a guitar tuition package. It covers everything you need, and if you are looking to unlock your playing and become a great lead player, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to you.

Next we have Jamorama Lead
www.dailyguitarlessons.com/Recommends/Jamlead

This is a good package, and from the talk in forums etc I gather that most people prefer it to the Guitar Tutor Pro stuff. I think that's because The Guitar Tutor Pro package contains stuff that may be considered advanced or intermediate level, whereas the Jamorama Lead package is more for people just looking to develop some everyday lead skills. That's not to say it's basic, I think there is stuff for everyone to learn, and it's very well presented. Another plus point is that at $39.95 it's almost $10 cheaper than Guitar Tutor Pro-though whether guitar tuition is something you want to skimp on is up to you to decide! This also comes with a cool package of additional stuff, and as I mentioned before I think the ear training program is awesome. A musician is only as good as his ear, but it's often neglected in training, so it's great to see a program geared toward that.

As far as downsides go, the only major one I had personally is that this package isn't as advanced as the Guitar Tutor Pro stuff. Another thing I didn't like is the attitude toward improving as a guitarist-there are several mentions of "secrets of the pros" and things like that. Any good guitarist will know that there are no secrets, it's just about practice practice practice, so I don't like to see a guitar teacher fuelling the whole "secrets" thing. Other than that though, it's a nice package and will definitely help you improve.

Overall Rating- 8 out of 10. A great value package, and one that will definitely  teach you a thing or two-you'll be picking out lead lines to your favourite tunes in no time. Be warned though, if you are really looking to excel at lead guitar you will find more to learn with the Guitar Tutor Pro series.

Next up is the Jamorama Acoustic package
http://www.dailyguitarlessons.com/Recommends/Jamacoustic

This is a cool package, geared solely toward learning to play acoustic guitar. It's well put together and well thought out, and would be an ideal addition to someone taking their first steps toward musicianship. The exercises and techniques shown in the videos are clear and easy to understand and will have you developing very fast. I struggled for a couple of years with an acoustic when I first started playing, but with something like this I think I would have gotten off to a much easier start. Again, this package comes with the excellent extras which include the ear training software-very useful for a newbie!

As far as downsides go, there really isn't a downside to this package if you are fairly new to acoustic guitar and you have no interest in playing an electric. Acoustics are popular these days, so if all you want to do is strum along at a few parties or whatever, this tuition program will get you there quickly and easily, and much more than that if you want.
Next up is the Jamorama Acoustic package

http://www.dailyguitarlessons.com/Recommends/Jamacoustic
Overall Rating- 8 out of 10. If you are solely looking to learn to play an acoustic guitar and go no further than that, this is the package for you. It's quick, you'll develop fast, and maybe best of all it will eliminate many of those doubts and uncertainties which can be a real problem for new players.

So there you are, those are the three best online guitar tuition programs I've been able to find. All three are a great way to learn, they will all honestly accelerate your learning beyond what you could normally expect, but each has it's own speciality. Think about what you want to get out of your guitar before making a decision which you will go with. If you have some experience of guitar playing and you aspire to be Steve Vai or Joe Satch, go with Guitar Tutor Pro. If you are happier to get to grips with people like Clapton and Slash, go with the Jamorama Lead, and finally, if you are just looking to get the very best from your acoustic guitar, Jamorama Acoustic is the way to go. Just remember, you'll get more from each program if you put more in-Happy practicing!
